Message From Chief William Blair
President of CACP In August 2010 all eyes are on Edmonton and the 105th Annual Conference of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. The Executive and Board of Directors join me in welcoming you to our conference, to experience professional development, networking with colleagues, and the warm western hospitality of our Edmonton co-hosts, Michael J. Boyd, Chief of the Edmonton Police Service and CACP Vice-President, and Rod R. Knecht, RCMP Deputy Commissioner of North West Region and Commanding Officer of “K” Division (Alberta).
An excellent programme has been developed under the title Policing Excellence Through Performance and Accountability. This is a very timely theme in 2010, but it is a topic that is relevant at all times. If police leaders of those earliest generations were here to join us, they would find the conference meaningful also. We all aspire to excellence, as individuals and professionals, as dynamic leaders of our respective police agencies and as trusted spokespersons within our local communities. The CACP motto, “leading progressive change in policing”, expresses the overall and long-standing goal of excellence within our professional association.
What is most important is that our communities, stakeholders and governing authorities see our commitment to excellence. This commitment is reflected in our ongoing efforts to use meaningful ways to measure, evaluate and account appropriately for our performance. Accountability to the public we serve is ultimately what gives us our mandate. When we are accountable, then we are trusted by those who count on us for their personal and community safety and sense of security.
Our 2010 conference promises to be exciting, invigorating and inspiring. I know that you will find the programme and the venue to be memorable and rewarding.
Enjoy Edmonton!
Chief William Blair
